Final blog

The book I read was The Hunger Games written by Suzanne Collins. The genre of this would be somewhere along of the lines of young adult and fiction. The Hunger Games has three main characters. There’s Katniss Everdeen we meet her in the beginning of the book. She lives in The Seam part of District Twelve. She is in a word Rebellious. While she may not know it she had been defying the capitol since she was ten. She is chosen as one of the participants from District Twelve. She is hard working and cares a lot about her family. Then there is Gale who is Katniss’s best friend, he also lives in the Seam. While two years older than Katniss you would think they were an item. But there not, there best friends and hunting partners. Gale, like Katniss, is rebellious even though he wouldn’t know that. He has been hunting out of bounds for food just as long as Katniss has. He provides for his family and is very caring and a very hard worker. Peeta is the last of the main characters. While he still lives in the poorest district, twelve, he lives in the richer part of that district. Since his father is the baker he almost always has food on the table. He has had it easier than most of the people in the district but is still a hard worker. He is the boy participant from District Twelve and is in love with Katniss. Has been since they were kids even though she didn’t know this.

The Hunger Games is split into three different settings. Each as important as the other. The first, which is where we meet our three main characters, is District Twelve. It is the poorest of the twelve districts plus the capitol. It is also the smallest. Their main export is coal and you can tell. The entire district looks as if it could have a layer of coal dust lying on it. The Seam which is where Gale and Katniss reside is the poorest part of the district. Usually the people here are those who are scrounging for food. Katniss and Gale are the only ones who actually go outside the boundaries of twelve to hunt for their food. Then there is the market where there are the stores. The bakery is in the market which is where Peeta lives who is the third main character. The second setting would be Capitol City. This is where all the participants in the Hunger Games first meet each other. It is a grand place, nothing like any of these kids has ever seen. There are cars and very nice houses. It was just very grand, even the food was grand. They spent most of their time in the training center where they learned different kinds of specialties. The last setting would be the Arena. The arena is a vast place full of different elements of nature. This is where the Hunger Games participants are dumped to fight for the winning spot in the games.

Some of the main conflicts in this book would be hunger. Everyone in the districts has to somehow overcome hunger. They have to scrounge for food and trade and do their best to stay alive. Which brings on another conflict, which would be death. The Hunger Games is about fighting for your life. But so is everyday life in the districts. Each person who didn’t live in the capitol has had it hard. Some easier than the other but in every district people have to deal with death. There is disease, starvation and even punishments. Death is a part of their life.

The theme of this book I would say is Overcoming Adversity. Since this is basically about the people and mostly the three main characters from district twelve overcoming the things thrown at them. This theme seems to fit well. Each character has had a hard life of being hungry, being cold sometimes. And having tragedys in there life. Then the worst and most unlucky thing happens to two of them. That’s adversity at its finest. Being thrown in with kids you don’t even know and have to kill some.

I would definitely recommend this book. It is such a good read and its somewhat emotional. It can really make you think about things. Who knows what could happen in the future maybe something like this is the future for man kind. It’s a great book that a person can just sit and read for hours. I would suggest that the reader be at least in middle school if not high school. As it does deal with death and killing I don’t think it is suitable for kids youger than middle school. And even then that age group might be to young. The book made me feel thoughtful And even a little scared. Because while it made me think about what life must be like it also made me think about if something like this could actually happen. I mean it’s a scary thought about if it could really happen. Id give this book five stars. For me it was an easy read but it was so good. I couldn’t put it down.

Katniss is a rebellious hard working and caring individual. I can see a lot of that in me. I care so much about friends and family and never want to see them in pain. I work hard to make those around me happy. I am also a very hard worker. When it comes to things that must be done I do my best to do them and do them well. Rebellious, well I’d say that phase is over but being a teenager I could say that there is some rebellion in me. I mean most teenagers do rebel against there parents.

I would say the Government is a lot like the capitol. Not in the ways that it rules our everyday lives. But the fact that it is something a lot of people hate. It has its rules and laws and theres a lot of them that a lot of people dnt agree with.
